Monster Hunter Tri Predictions
Well, Tri is coming out just about right now.
Let's predict its 1st week and LTD.
Indicators:
Amazon- At the top of the Amazon charts. Obviously
Comgnet- Ended up with 980 pre-orders. That is almost 4 times as much as Monster Hunter G.
Common sense- Huge. Over a million initial shipment. Massive advertising.
I'm going to go big and predict 650K in its 1st 2 days. LTD I'll go with 1.4 million.
For the Wii, I'll go with 150K.
Let's see if I'm right!

Software Prediction- Dragon Quest IX
It's going to be huge. How big? Judging by Amazon, where its been virtually sold out for months, to Comgnet, where it had almost 3,000 pre-orders..I'm going to predict 2.4M sold in the first two days.

Wii Fit plus release date and more
From Anoop, it looks like Wii Fit plus will hit 10/1. Forever Blue 2 comes two weeks earlier, 9/17.
Nintendo may be in a decent position to maintain whatever bump Monster Hunter Tri gives- Wii Fit Plus will come exactly 2 months after Tri, which isn't that long of a wait. Expect New Super Mario Bros. Wii to come in November, and maybe another big title in December (WuHu Island, the name of the Wii Sports Resort Island which was recently trademarked by Nintendo??).

2009 1st Half Famitsu Report- The Market is down
Japan's computer game market saw a 24 percent drop in sales in the first half of the year, according to data released Wednesday.
The market was worth ¥218.9 billion (US$2.3 billion) during the period, said Enterbrain. The company bases its estimates on point-of-sales system data gathered from 3,500 retailers across Japan and its figures are regarded as generally accurate.
Sales of games hardware dropped by 28 percent to ¥92 billion while software sales fell 22 percent to ¥127 billion.
Nintendo's DS outsold Sony's PlayStation Portable (PSP) with sales of 1.6 million units to 1.2 million units respectively. In the console space Nintendo's Wii continued its dominance with sales of 639,788 units against the PlayStation 3's 552,601 units and the Xbox 360's 214,221 units.
The most popular software title of the six months was "Mario and Luigi RPG3!!!" for the DS, which shifted 647,844 units. In second place was "Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G" for the PSP with sales of 595,348 units.

Dragon Quest IX Hype- SE wants above 4.9M copies sold
In an interview with a local paper, series creator Yuji Horii hopes for multiple purchases across the family and for a total sales number above 4.9 million. Next Saturday should be fun. Thanks to the andriasang blog for the report.

Weekly Review
The big news was Wii Sports Resort, which sold very well- over 350K according to Famitsu. However, the expected hardware bump did not materialize. According to Media Create, Wii sold just under 22K. That was a bump of about 2.5K units, which might not even represent a bump at all given the low increase. We'll see if there is a long term bump, but I'm not optimistic. One other possibility- maybe people are holding out until Monster Hunter Tri and the new Black Wii come out August 1.

Monster Hunter Tri Final Blowout
Capcom held a pre-release conference in Japan yesterday to announce that Monster Hunter Tri was complete and on track for its 8/1 release.
Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata was on hand for the festivities. Clearly Tri is getting a huge push and both companies are banking on its success.

Wii Sports hardware bump- Pretty low according to Famitsu
According to reliable Japanese retailer Sinobi, Wii hardware for the week was about 21K, which is up from 17K the week before. Famitsu has been tracking Wii lower than Media Create for a while, so the Media Create number might be higher..but still, very underwhelming.
